Although we don’t like pain, there is a good reason for it as it is the body’s way of telling us that something is wrong and to stop us from making a situation worse. Pain is used by doctors to assess the seriousness of some conditions and help locate the cause of a problem which in turn can assist the treatment. Normally once the cause of the pain is treated, the pain will gradually disappear but not always.
People who suffer with back injuries, arthritis or migraines for instance are said to be suffering with ‘chronic pain’; which doesn’t go away. There is no preventative action you can take to stop chronic pain and it can affect someone at anytime during their life from almost any situation from accident, injury or disease. Chronic pain often long outlives its original cause, worsening over time and taking on a life of its own and the longer chronic pain goes untreated, the worse it becomes.
The problem with prescription medication is that it is easy to become dependent and as time progresses the drugs become less effective but the dependence remains or there are serious side effects to be considered and many are now turning towards natural pain relief treatments as long term alternatives. One such natural pain relief method is the use of acupuncture, a treatment that has origins many thousands of years old. Originating in China, acupuncture involves piercing the skin with thin needles on specific points of the body.
Many people swear by its effectiveness claiming it can help with migraine, depression, arthritis and of course back pain. The use of herbal remedies must not be discounted either as natural pain relief treatments plus they do not indicated side effects common with other types of pain killers. One example is vitamin E which is a natural pain relief treatment for people suffering with painful scarring.
The only problem to using herbal remedies as treatments is they do not provide instant results but rather a gradual build up; however, they are not going to cause problems to the system as only natural products are taken.
Despite all this advice, it is possible to lower the risk of needing natural pain relief during your life if you maintain a healthy diet and avoid those foods which we know to be detrimental to long term health like processed foods and foods that have a high fat or salt content. Also Sleep is essential to good health just as much as regular exercise is, even if it is only walking every day and using stairs rather than the elevator.
