Bronchitis Lung is severe inflammation of the air passages within the lungs. It happens when the trachea (windpipe) and the large and small bronchi (airways) within the lungs become inflamed because of infection or other causes.

The condition includes the following complications:

  • The slim mucous lining of these airways can become snapy and inflamed.
  • The cells that form this lining may leak fluids in response to the inflammation.
  • Coughing is a reflex that works to expel secretions from the lungs. Often the discomfort of a severe cough leads you to seek medical treatment.
  •  Both elders and kids can get bronchitis
  •  Symptoms are similar for both. 6.Infants usually get bronchiolitis, which involves the smaller airways and causes symptoms similar to asthma.

Symptoms include:

  1. Coughing up extra mucus, sometimes with blood
  2. Wheezing
  3. Heavy breathing
  4. Runny nose

Causes:

More specifically, it may refer to:

Acute bronchitis, caused by viruses or bacteria and lasting several days or weeks.  Chronic bronchitis, a persistent, productive cough lasting at least three months in two consecutive years.

Chronic bronchitis can be caused by cigarette smoke. Acute bronchitis is often a symptom of the common cold.

In bronchitis, the membranes lining the larger air passages (bronchi) become swollen and disproportionate amount of mucus is produced. The person with bronchitis develops a bad cough to get rid of the mucus. Rarely it can lead to pneumonia. Air flow into and out of the lungs is partly blocked because of the inflammation and extra mucus in the bronchi.
