The majority of the population has a natural fungus in their bodies which lies dormant and perfectly safe alongside many others. Itis this fungus, when it rapidly overgrows, which leads to thrush. When thrush is mentioned people normally think only of vaginal thrush. However, it can also effect sufferers in the mouth, colon, stomach and throat. When there is no overgrowth of this natural fungus the human body is not blighted by thrush.
Despite yeast infections / thrush being associated with the female genital area, it can also be found in the genital area of men. Both sexes can originate the infection and both can transmit it also. The thinking that men can catch thrush from women only is a myth.
Thrush is not a serious problem but if left untreated it can cause major discomfort. In some instances, thrush can also lead to a much serious condition. This is why anyone who thinks that they are suffering from thrush must immediately seek medical advice. Thrush, must never be ignored.
The worst thing you can do is leave a thrush infection untreated. By ignoring the fact that you have a yeast infection you increase the risk of making the problem even worse. It can be treated swiftly thus preventing the increase of symptoms to other parts of your body. Do not have sex as thrush is highly contagious (plus intercourse itself painful when suffering from thrush).
The medication that your doctor can prescribe can have severe side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, and dizziness. Contraception that you may use can also be damaged as creams used to treat thrush can corrode the rubber of condoms and diaphragms.
You can take measures to stop thrush occurring in the first place. This strategy must be approached with caution as a certain amount of yeast is naturally required for a healthy vagina in the first place. Trying to second guess how much you have in your body is a little risky for some. Plus, if you already have thrush then preventative measures are a little late in the day and a cure is required.
Thrush can be prevented. It is necessary to note that a normal amount of yeast is necessary for good vaginal health. That is why it is not advisable to rely too much on preventing the formation of yeast. It is certainly too late if you already have the infection and are looking for a cure.
