You have decided that you are going to lose weight. You know that you will have to cut down your calorie intake by exercising or eating less. You should also know that the majority of your weight loss success depends on your diet. Some foods that are filled with sugar and fat and offer zero nutritional value to your diet. These are considered empty calories. The following foods should be avoided if you want to reach your weight loss goal.

Eliminate white bread. I know it is hard to imagine a day without white bread. There goes your toast, your sandwiches, even your white pita wraps. It’s important to understand that, unlike whole grain breads, white breads are stripped of their nutritional value during processing. Eating white bread is like eating a spoonful of table sugar. The glycemic index of white bread is close to that of glucose.

You must also avoid table sugar. This means table sugar in all of its forms and uses. Don’t add a tablespoon of sugar to your morning coffee or your cereal, but beyond that, don’t eat candy, soda and other high sugar content foods. Table sugar is a 50/50 mix of glucose and fructose. It tastes good, but offers no nutritional value. It will increase your blood glucose forcing your body to create and release huge amounts of insulin. Table sugar is absolutely bad news for your health and your diet.

Fried foods contribute in no way to weight loss. Fried foods are so full of fat because of all the oil, which is mostly saturated and trans fat, that they are soaked and fried in. Fried food is also high in calories. Also, because of the extreme heat when frying, essential fatty acids that the body needs and may actually contribute to weight loss are destroyed.

As much as it may hurt, ditch the donuts and pastries. Donuts are nothing more than deep fried white flour dipped in sugar and filled with more sugary toppings. This is a high calorie food, full of saturated and trans fats and sugar. Donuts and pastries are a disaster for your diet.

You can indulge in your favorite treats from time to time; just remember that by and large these must be eliminated from your daily diet. When you do indulge, don’t over-indulge. Eat a small portion then stop. If you want optimal diet results, keep these foods as far away from your mouth as possible!
