Sticking to an anti Candida diet takes focus and will power, partly because there are foods you are giving up but also because of the difficulties it can create in your social life. But taking this important step to get rid of Candida for good does not have to ruin your life so here are some pointers to help you along the way.
Take it easy! If your diet is full of processed, junk and refined or sugary foods, this is going to be a tough change for you. Cutting everything out all at once is going to make you more likely to ‘fall off the wagon’ and that will make the whole thing pointless. Take it easy and cut things out gradually until you get to where you need to be to officially start the anti Candida diet. For example Week 1 cut out sugar, the next week cut out carbohydrates, the next week starchy foods and so on.
Look at the positive factors about the diet. Focus on what you can have rather than bemoaning about what you cannot. Though it seems like a lot of foods are cut out, there are still many you can enjoy.
Give yourself a break There are bound to be situations where you end up eating something not on the diet, perhaps you fell off the wagon, perhaps its your best friends birthday party and she gives you a piece of cake, or maybe your son made his first cookie at daycare and wants you to eat it! Whatever the reason do not use it as an excuse to give up completely. Just accept it and move on!
Pack a snack: Have foods ready at hand in case you need a snack that are part of the diet. In your bag, at work, in the car. When having a gossip with a friend take a snack with you to their house so they do not have to worry about you and are not offended when you refuse those chips.
Eat before a party: Finger foods are hard to resist and everyone eats far more of them than we should. Before going out to such an occasion eat a good meal so you are less tempted by all that carbohydrates and sugar.
Eating Out Try to be the one who choose which restaurant to go to if you have a dinner date so that you can choose one you know has food you can eat. Most places have salads nowadays so if in doubt opt for that. Even if they do not as long as you are not eating out every night relax!
Making friends and family aware. It helps if the people around you know you have special food requirements so they do not keep tempting you with foods you can’t eat. But understandably you may not want to announce to everyone you know that it is an anti candida diet. Tell people you are detoxing and that is usually enough for them.
