A lot of herbal treatment options have been available down the ages to cure infertility. Find out here what they are and if they are effective.

Infertility treatment is not a new thing as in ancient India and China, herbal infertility treatment has been going on for centuries. Yes, herbs were used for the treatment of childlessness in Ayurveda as long as 6000 years back and you will find reference to this in CTM or Chinese Traditional Medicine as well. However there are different theories among them as to why someone becomes a victim of infertility. The Indian Ayurvedic system is of the opinion that a person becomes infertile only when toxic materials become accumulated within the body, and also due to inadequate diet and unhealthy lifestyle and thus the target of Ayurveda is to rectify them. On the other hand, the Chinese Taoists think that for the body to work smoothly, energy has to pass without any hurdles. And when there is any kind of a blockage, this can lead to problems such as infertility. And thus to release this energy and make it flow, they recommend Chinese acupuncture needles and also many herbs, and this can help the woman conceive. Interestingly, in Ayurveda too there is a similar theory and this can be seen in the use of Uttaravasti, in which blockages are removed.

But interestingly, herbal infertility treatment is just not about the use of herbs - it is much more than that. The aim is to treat the person from within, both in body and mind, and the herbs are used for this purpose. With the application of this treatment, even the hormonal balance of the body can be restored, and this is very important because when there is an imbalance it can lead to infertility. However such treatments it has been seen tends to work better with women who are suffering from infertility. The treatments often use many ingredients which are ground together to make pills, tablets, granules and others, and sometimes they even come in the form of a tea. Here are some of the components that can be a part of the herbal infertility treatment.

  • Black Cohosh
  • Dong Quai
  • Licorice
  • Red Cover blossom
  • Chastetree berry
  • False Unicorn root
  • Wild yam

It has been seen that many herbs can improve the infertility such as the Siberian Ginseng, Vitex, Don Quai and Motherwort and so they are being widely used. But it seems that the results are the best with Don Quai because it aids the normal functioning of the ovaries and also re-establishes the normal cycle, which is in most cases disturbed among infertile women.

But infertility is not the only problem among women - many of them also fail to keep it even after they have conceived and end up with sad miscarriages. This is when the woman needs the herb Vitex. It is particularly helpful in these cases because the herb can increase the level of 3 hormones and they are the LH or Luteinizing hormone, Progesterone and Prolactin. And these 3 hormones not only help the woman conceive but also help her sustain the pregnancy, and they even provide for breast milk. Naturally when there is a higher level of these hormones, it helps. Miscarriage can be prevented by keeping the uterus relaxed and this is achieved by Wild Yam and Cramp Bark. A weak immune system can also lead to infertility and these herbs can also strengthen the immune system. There have been many cases when the woman suffered from multiple bouts of colds and flu’s (the most common symptoms of poor immunity) and yet became pregnant and this became possible due to the herbs.

Herbal infertility treatment is a great idea but the fact is that, it may work best when you combine this with the holistic approach. The best approach is always to know what the problem is and then try to rectify it, and this is what the holistic approach does. Holistic remedies first finds out the real issue and then suggests remedies that can be herbs, Chinese medicines, exercise, diet and lifestyle changes and even acupuncture. And because of this, holistic remedies work so much better than the conventional approach for infertility.
