When many people consider treatment for lung cancer, they initially think of surgery. While a wedge resection, partial or full lobectomy, or pneumonectomy may be necessary, there are other approaches that can be taken to help eliminate cancerous cells. They include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and various targeted therapies. In many cases, doctors will suggest a multi-pronged approach that combines surgical and non-surgical forms of treatment.

Below, we’ll focus primarily on non-surgical paths toward removing lung cancer. We’ll describe when each approach is used, how it is administered, and how it works to help eliminate cancerous cells.

Smoking Could Cause Weight Loss

Feb 7, 2010 Author: Rodolfo S. Cummings | Filed under: Addiction, Health, Lungs and Breathing, Weight Loss

Smoking- a habit that the world condemns due to the numerous health risks it brings along can be effective in weight loss. If you are an addictive smoker then you may end up losing weight because of those cigarettes. Cigarette smoking works in more way than just you shed weight.

First of all, smoking damages your taste receptors. Consistent smoking damages your taste buds utterly. The more you smoke, the higher the damage caused to your taste receptors. This occurs because the tar in the cigarettes completely coats your tongue and reduces the potential of your taste buds.

Bronchitis Causes and Symptoms

Apr 7, 2009 Author: Jana Knottel | Filed under: Health, Lungs and Breathing

Bronchitis Lung is severe inflammation of the air passages within the lungs. It happens when the trachea (windpipe) and the large and small bronchi (airways) within the lungs become inflamed because of infection or other causes.

The condition includes the following complications:

  • The slim mucous lining of these airways can become snapy and inflamed.
  • The cells that form this lining may leak fluids in response to the inflammation.
  • Coughing is a reflex that works to expel secretions from the lungs. Often the discomfort of a severe cough leads you to seek medical treatment.
  •  Both elders and kids can get bronchitis
  •  Symptoms are similar for both. 6.Infants usually get bronchiolitis, which involves the smaller airways and causes symptoms similar to asthma.

Can Stopping Smoking Help You Stay Sober?

Dec 23, 2008 Author: Ed Philips | Filed under: Addiction, Health, Lungs and Breathing
People who are addicted to alcohol are also likely to smoke cigarettes. According to the June 2008 issue of the Harvard Mental Health Letter many experts feel that it’s important to counsel alcohol-dependent individuals to quit smoking as well as drinking not just to improve their health, but also to increase their chances of staying sober.

It is a universal fear that attempting to quit smoking and drinking at one fell swoop will undermine treatment for alcohol dependence.

You should be aware, however, that most studies have shown that attempts to quit smoking have either no impact on sustaining abstinence or actually increases the success of alcohol treatment.

Currently there is no smoking cessation strategy exclusively for alcohol-dependent adults. For now, the wisest choice is to follow the federal guidelines for treating tobacco addiction, which advocates a combination of counseling and medication.

An important, and still unresolved, issue is whether it’s better to give up smoking and drinking at the same time, or whether it’s better to work on one addiction at a time.

Can Electronic Cigarettes Help You Quit Smoking?

Dec 14, 2008 Author: Donnie Taberthino | Filed under: Addiction, Health, Lungs and Breathing
Can electronic cigarettes help you quit smoking and what are they anyway?

Asked recently to write about electronic cigarettes, I have to confess that I had never heard of such a thing. Some internet research later and I discovered that electronic cigarettes are very much a quickly growing concern. A Google search revealed there is no smoke without fire as almost six million results just for the phrase “electronic cigarette” were returned.

The electronic cigarette has been in existence for almost three years and is a clever device aimed at providing smokers with a healthier option. Apparently also useful in helping to reduce and indeed quit smoking altogether.

At 100mm in length the new mini e cigarette is the most realistic so far. In its fourth generation the electronic cigarette is finally user friendly and sleek, unlike its earlier brethren which were large and perhaps a little embarrassing to use.
