Lazy eye, otherwise known as strabismus, is a fairly common condition where the eyes are not properly aligned with each other. It is widely accepted that the cause of lazy eye is due to a lack of coordination of the extraocular muscles and sufferers are often prevented from having binocular vision (where the two eyes move together) and thus a poor sense of distance perception.
A short story
About ten years ago, a member of my family, Lorraine, suffered from a lazy eye but she was more bothered by the aesthetics rather than the actual function of her eyes. She used to go into great detail about how she’d often find conversations with other people awkward because the other person would look away or would be put off by the lazy eye. Furthermore, she’d mention occasions where, in a group of people, no-one would know who she was talking to so she had to resort to dropping names into the conversation to clear up any confusion. The condition damaged her confidence so much that she would try anything to improve it; and thankfully, despite what her ophthalmologist told her, she managed to improve her lazy eyesight naturally so that it’s now no longer an issue. Astigmatism is a condition in which one or both eyes has a misshapen cornea. In a normal eye, the cornea is symmetrically curved. In an astigmatic eye, areas of the cornea are steeper or flatter than normal, causing areas of your vision to be blurred. Here are some tips that you can consider to adopt to prevent further damage to your eye.
1. Exercise Your Eyes
To prevent eyestrain, it is recommended to do eye yoga. Move your eyes slowly and smoothly as far to the left as you can, then as far to the right as you can. Continue by looking up, then down, then at all four diagonals. Repeat the entire sequence three to five times, once or twice a day. You may feel a little pain at first. Stop if it is too much.
