Tonsillitis occurs when the tonsils (which are two glands at the back of the mouth) become infected trigger a bad sore throat as well as fever. Although tonsils can easily get infected and are a big nuisance, they play a vital role to one’s health, as we shall see further on in the article.

Common indicators of severe tonsillitis are really red or puss covered glands at the back of the throat. In such cases, tiny white spots can be fairly visible at the back portion of the mouth, and on the sides of the inner-mouth walls near the throat opening. The glands (also known as “lymph nodes”) become enlarged and cause eating difficulty (and in some cases trouble with breathing as well). Obviously this is just an approximate guide to your baby’s temperature. There will be many occasions when you want a more accurate indication. The best thing is to use a proper thermometer of course, and there are a variety of different types available. Which is the best for you and your baby?

Scientists have discovered a previously unknown link between a mother’s diet in pregnancy and a severe form of liver disease in her child.

In a study, published in the journal Hepatology, researchers at the University of Southampton found that a high fat diet during a woman’s pregnancy makes her offspring more likely to develop a severe form of fatty liver disease when they reach adulthood. The findings are another piece in the jigsaw for scientists who believe diets containing too high levels of saturated fat may have an adverse effect on our health.

Its is quite common for boys to continue bed wetting for longer than girls. For example, most girls have broken this habit by the time they are 4 years old, whereas with boys it is far more common for them to still be bed wetting at this age. Due to these differences between the sexes, its important to carefully consider all factors when deciding on a strategy to handle bed wetting.

Irregular sleep cycles, underdeveloped bladder muscles and serious illness are 3 of the possible causes of bed wetting for girls in this age group, and they should be carefully considered by your doctor. Only after considering these three serious causes can bed wetting treatment methods be used.

There have been many doubts prevailing about the brain disorder called bipolar in children. Physicians and scientists come out with various opinions and conclusions but many times they have been misguiding. Various theories and statements have been issued about the symptoms of bipolar but all of them have aggravated the confusion. The American Journal of Psychiatry published an article in the year 2000. It stated that “people with symptoms of bipolar have 30% more brain cells in both the parts of their brain. These extra cells send electric signals that cause over stimulation of the brain. Thus symptoms of bipolar are developed in children.

The Cause of the Disorder?

We have yet to find out where childhood bipolar disorder really comes from, and though it’s tempting to look for a simple, catch all answer, in truth it’s not as simple as all that. It seems, though, that this disorder comes from a combination of factors, where certain biological conditions in the child have to come together with environmental factors in order to create this illness.
