You Really Do Need a Vacation

Apr 11, 2009 Author: David Loren Sullivan | Filed under: Family, Health, Vacation
You really do need a vacation! This statement may be more honest than all of us realize. Studies have recently shown that your well-being may depend on it.

According to the Conference Board, a firm specializing in private research, the number of Americans who will take a vacation within six months is the lowest in thirty years. 39% of the respondents who took their standard consumer survey were also not considering travel next year — a low since 1978. Public health consultants believe this is a mistake.

We need a break from the all-time high levels of stress and job uncertainty. A visionary health research project since 1948, known as the Framingham Heart Study, has made major scientific contributions toward identifying risk factors for heart disease. The project assessed and studied twenty years of questionnaires over three generations. According to the data, women who took vacations once in six years or less were near eight times more susceptible to developing heart disease or having a heart attack.

Traveling During Pregnancy

Apr 10, 2009 Author: Liam | Filed under: Pregnancy, Vacation, Women Issues

Pregnant women need to plan their holidays and air travel with some extra care. The gynecologist would be the first person to contact to see if any special arrangements need to be made and if there are any medical reasons why it is unsafe to fly. Some women experience abnormal bleeding and an increase in their blood pressure, in which case the doctor would normally suggest that flying should be avoided and in particular if any swelling has been experienced.

Whilst it is almost universally accepted that it is safe for expectant mothers to fly up until the thirty sixth week of pregnancy, it is best to check this detail with the airline involved. Some airlines will actually ask a pregnant woman if they have a certificate of pregnancy which is usually advisable after twenty four weeks.

When looking at holidays with babies in mind, there are a number of factors which you need to look at. These include babysitting services, changing facilities and breastfeeding laws within the country you are traveling to. So when you are planning to have that perfect family vacation, always remember to keep these things in mind.

Ensuring That You Have a Good Holiday with the Children

When you are traveling with your children it can get a little stressful. There are various things that you should not forget to take with you, depending entirely upon the age of the child.

If you are traveling with babies then you will need diapers, bottles of milk and baby wipes. These things really will come in as essentials on the journey there and whilst you are at your holiday destination so it is important not to forget them. If you are traveling with older children then bottled water is an excellent thing to have with you. You never know what is in the water that you are drinking abroad and often our stomachs can become sensitive through drinking water in a different country. So, plenty of bottled water and plastic cups will come in really handy.

Lake George NY, A Great Place

Jan 23, 2009 Author: LJ James | Filed under: Family, Vacation

As a Biker I love to take long Rides on my 2007 Harley Davidson, Nightrain. Some times a trip to Connecticut where one has the freedom of choice to decided if they want to wear a Helmet or not is a great place to go. Often I head up to the NY Catskill Mountains, Where a Burger and a Beer at Nicks Waterfall House in West Conesville can be the perfect end to a day of Cruising threw the Mountains.

Then there is another of my Favorite places to ride to, The Lake George NY area. My Uncle has a small Cabin in the Mountains right outside of the town of Lake George where I often stay. The area has some great long and winding roads for riding, These roads will relax even the most stressed Motorcycle rider.

There is so much history to the Lake George NY area. While on a trip one year riding around with no real destination in mind, I found myself in front of Fort Ticonderoga (fort-ticonderoga.org). Being very interested in American History I had to stop in and take the tour. The Fort was built between 1755 and 1759 and has plenty of stories to tell. It had a big roll in the American Revolution. As I walked around the Fort the I could almost imagine I had traveled back to the 18Th Century, The things I learned reminded me of the sacrifices our fore Fathers made to secure the Freedoms we enjoy and let slip threw our fingers every day.
