Mar 31, 2009 Author: Christina Goldman | Filed under: Family

Why are Challenge Coins so popular among scout troops, police departments, fire departments, colleges, schools, and even church groups? Because even in today’s youth, Challenge Coins remain the representation of the steady bond and unity among military units.

While steadily growing in popularity, many collectors do not know what Challenge Coins are, where they came from, or what their history is, in general. For those of you who are fascinated by these patriotic coins, here is a abbreviated discussion about the History of Challenge Coins.

The History of Challenge Coins dates back to the World War I, where the volunteers of America filled up the freshly formed flying squadrons. Some of these volunteers came from wealthy families, mostly students from prestigious schools such as Harvard and Yale, who stopped during the middle term to join the World War.

Types Of Home Renewable Energy

Mar 30, 2009 Author: Daniel Shermann | Filed under: Family, Technology

Home renewable energy is derived from natural sources, which, in turn, is easily replenished over a short amount of time. Nonrenewable energy, on the other hand, is obtained from limited natural resources. A good example of a nonrenewable energy source that is unfortunately irrevocably diminishing is fossil fuel (coal, petroleum, and natural gases) as demonstrated by inflation of prices.

When you talk of renewable energy, there are four types, all of which are directly or indirectly associated with the sun:

1. The Solar Energy - Solar energy is defined as the radiant energy generated from the sun. The intensity of solar energy reaching the earth’s surface depends on several factors namely: day of the year, time of day, and collection point. Solar energy quantity, on the other hand, relies on the location of the collecting medium.

The Good Reasons to Use a Shower Water Filter

Mar 30, 2009 Author: Peter Clark | Filed under: Family, Health

Shower water filters. Clearly we need to filter our drinking water, but why in the world would you bother to filter your shower water?

After all who drinks shower water? You just wash in it.

But regardless there are still some very good reasons to use a shower water filter every time you shower. Here’s 4 reasons.

1. Chlorine. If there’s chlorine in your water, (and who doesn’t have chlorine in their water), you really don’t want to be drinking it. Some consider that over time drinking chlorine can even lead to cancer.

But chlorine in the shower water is still a problem. Because some of the water that lands on your skin soaks into your skin, and your body. And chlorine goes in with it. So in effect you have the same result as if you had drunk unfiltered water. And hot water opens the pores and allows more chlorine in.

One such area of improvement is the floor of the garage. Most garages have plain, ugly concrete floors. In addition to being ugly, these floors are also prone to damage from moisture, spills, cracking, and more. What is a home owner to do?

Fortunately for you, there are many options available for garage floor coatings. Each can either be installed by yourself or by a professional. In this article, we will briefly look at each of the options, discussing the pros and cons of each one.

First, let’s look at mats. Garage floor mats are just simple vinyl mats designed to protect your floor from impacts and spills. These install by simply rolling them out over the floor and cutting them to fit. Unfortunately, they can also trap moisture underneath, which is one drawback.

One vegetarian favorite is the chili. A true chili vegetarian recipe cook however, knows that there is more to just randomly adding any kind of chili pepper. There are some things that you need to take into consideration with your chili vegetarian recipe.

Know Your Chili

Naturally, the amount of chili in your chili vegetarian recipe will of course depend on your natural capacity to endure hotness. It is a fact for example that bell peppers and pimiento provide no hot taste at all so you can basically add as much as you want in a dish. Habanero and santaka chilies however are among the hottest so you would do well to add moderate amounts in your chili vegetarian recipe. The famous jalapenos are only about moderately hot and are often the favorite ingredients in a chili vegetarian recipe.

Best Soil for Gardening

Mar 24, 2009 Author: Rita S. Snow | Filed under: Family

Soil is one of the most important parts of a successful, fruitful garden. If your soil is rocky, full of clay, or depleted of enough nutrients, you will not have healthy plants. Think about it, if a newborn baby was fed no nutrients from birth, would you expect it to be healthy? The same goes for plants. A seed will sprout with just water, but it wont get much bigger as time goes on if there are no nutrients.

When you sow the seeds in planter trays, use a good potting soil. You don’t need to add any fertilizer at this point because you will be transplanting the seedlings soon anyway.

Before you transplant the seedlings, cultivate the soil. You need to break up all the clumps and remove all the rocks, roots, and clumps. Use gardening tools to help you such as a cultivator, hoe, pickax, and shovel.

Use a garden hoe to chop up the smaller clumps so that you can break up the soil as much as possible. Finally, use a cultivator to continue breaking up the clumps and to scoop and rake out the rocks, roots. etc.

Mar 23, 2009 Author: Mike Shivan | Filed under: Family

There are certain points which should be kept in mind if you want your family to be a happy family. Your kids and your spouse are your family. By definition a family is a group of people who are related to each other by either blood ties or by marriage and adoption. The dictionaries define a family as a group of people in which normally two adults have a socially acceptable relationship with each other and they may have kids of their own and they may adopt the kids of other people.

This family unit is the most important group of people in any ones life. If this group of people understands and they are able to give you the space in life which you need the most, you will be able to bear the rough and tough of life. How you behave as a family is important. If you have close ties with each other you will be able to make life better and easier for each other. Those families in which the members are not very close to each other are not very helpful in bringing positivism and courage in a person. To build a strong character you need to have strong foundations.
