Unhygienic oral health may lead to bleeding gums. Gingivitis is one of the major causes of bleeding gums. Poor oral hygiene results in the formation of sticky white substance known as plaque. The bacteria produce toxins which may irritate your gums causing swelling and redness of your gums. Bleeding of gums may also be caused by scurvy, leukemia, vitamin deficiency, infection, brushing too hard and hormonal changes in pregnancy. It is important to treat it on time otherwise your tooth will finally decay and fall off. There are several home remedies for bleeding gums which can be practiced regularly.

One of the easiest home remedies is consuming milk on regular basis. Since milk is rich in calcium it will strengthen your gums and prevent its bleeding. Aloe vera extract is also beneficial in treating bleeding gums. All you need to do is massage the affected area every night by aloe vera extract and leave it on the gums for the entire night. You will see that the symptoms will reduce second day onwards. (more…)

Periodontitis is inflammation of the tissues that surround and support the teeth, including the gums and the bony tooth sockets in the upper and lower jaw. The disease begins as gingivitis (inflammation of the gums, usually due to inadequate dental hygiene) which progresses without treatment. Gingivitis occurs when dental plaque (a sticky substance made of mucus, food particles, and bacteria) and calculus (the hardened deposit composed of mineralized plaque and saliva) irritate and inflame gum tissue, causing it to gradually erode. Over time, the gums recede and small pockets form between the gums and teeth. As these pockets deepen, they trap increasing amounts of plaque and calculus. Bacteria in the dental plaque produce an inflammatory reaction that erodes the bone and ligaments that support the teeth, causing the teeth to loosen within their sockets. Pus tends to form as the infection worsens. In some cases an acute infection may cause an abscess to form. Eventually, bone erosion is so extensive that the affected teeth become loose. Indeed, periodontitis not tooth decay is the major cause of adult tooth loss in the United States.

Helpful Supplements For Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease literally means “disease around the tooth” and is the major cause of tooth loss. The network of bones, gums and ligaments that form the tooth socket are called the periodontium. The gums that surround your teeth are called gingival.

Periodontal disease goes through three stages: gingivitis, periodontitis and pyorrhea.

The first stage; gingivitis, refers to inflammation of the gums caused by plaque that forms on the teeth and gums. This substance, if not properly removed through brushing and flossing hardens into tartar that irritates and infects the gums. Treated at this stage, gum disease can be controlled. It has not yet damaged the bone and ligaments that hold the teeth in place. (more…)
