The Magic of Oils For Skin Care

Jan 6, 2012 Author: miss | Filed under: Beauty, Health, Skin Care

One of the key differences between conventional skin care and natural or organic skin care is not the ‘active’ ingredients such as green tea or vitamin c, which excluding water may make up to about 5of any product, rather it lies with the base ingredients. In natural skin care, the base ingredients are often a mix of vegetable oils and butters or waxes in contrast to the synthetic ingredients often found in conventional skin care. The use of base oils has enormous benefit for the skin. Instead of being an inert (non-active) synthetic carrier for the active ingredients, base oils contain nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that support and nourish the skin. I would go so far as to count base oils as active ingredients in skin care. So, in fact, in natural products up to 95of any product has a supportive ‘active’ effect on the skin. In comparison, the synthetic base ingredients in conventional skin care by enlarge, lack significant therapeutic benefit.

There are many factors that affect the absorption of topical ingredients into the skin and in reality, many topical creams just sit on the surface of the skin, effectively plumping the superficial skin cells but rarely having any effect on deeper layers. The skin is designed to be selectively absorbent, being relatively permeable to fat soluble substances and relatively impermeable to water and water soluble substances. Fat soluble ingredients such as oils are absorbed more effectively and have greater effect on the cell membrane and skin matrix, supporting skin nourishment. As carriers, oils can also transport essential oils, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals into the skin where they are most effective, rather than just having a ‘surface’ effect. In addition, oils also help prevent skin dehydration by providing an effective water loss barrier which in turn leads to plumper, more hydrated skin. (more…)

Jan 5, 2012 Author: Walter Marsaki | Filed under: Health, Weight Loss

Liquid diets are popular among people who want rapid weight loss. But are they really good?

Taking liquid diets for many days continuously is not a good practice. You might lose a few pounds this way, but more importantly you will lose muscles of your body.

Your body will not get all the required energy for its functioning from the liquid diet. So what will it do?

The body will initially burn fat in order to get the energy, then later on will burn muscles to get more energy. The end result - loss of muscles.

When you start eating solid food again, your body is likely to gain back the weight again which it lost. However, the muscles are not so easy to gain back. (more…)

Periodontitis is inflammation of the tissues that surround and support the teeth, including the gums and the bony tooth sockets in the upper and lower jaw. The disease begins as gingivitis (inflammation of the gums, usually due to inadequate dental hygiene) which progresses without treatment. Gingivitis occurs when dental plaque (a sticky substance made of mucus, food particles, and bacteria) and calculus (the hardened deposit composed of mineralized plaque and saliva) irritate and inflame gum tissue, causing it to gradually erode. Over time, the gums recede and small pockets form between the gums and teeth. As these pockets deepen, they trap increasing amounts of plaque and calculus. Bacteria in the dental plaque produce an inflammatory reaction that erodes the bone and ligaments that support the teeth, causing the teeth to loosen within their sockets. Pus tends to form as the infection worsens. In some cases an acute infection may cause an abscess to form. Eventually, bone erosion is so extensive that the affected teeth become loose. Indeed, periodontitis not tooth decay is the major cause of adult tooth loss in the United States.
